If your digital satellite finder (like an inexpensive handheld meter) or digital satellite DB meter, which does not allow manual entry of satellite frequency or transponder details, it’s usually a basic signal strength meter, not a programmable one. These meters are often used by aligning the dish while connected to the LNB and receiver, and rely on the receiver’s TP frequency. As you know, Digital Satellite Finder is the Best Satellite Finder meter for Beginners.
Pre-Setup on the Free DTH Receiver -
Even though your satellite finder doesn’t allow manual frequency input, it receives TP details from the DD Free dish receiver.
On your satellite receiver -
Go to the settings → satellite installation or antenna setup
Choose the DD Free dish satellite like GSAT-15
Use high gain or strong frequency like 11590 V 29500 for DD Free Dish
Enable 22kHz tone and DiSEqC if required
This sends a power and frequency signal to the LNB, which your satellite finder will pick up automatically.
Connect the Digital Satellite Finder -
You can connect your digital satellite finder to the middle of your DD Free dish and LNB like this -
[Satellite Dish] → [LNB] → [Satellite Finder] → [Receiver]
The finder goes between the LNB and the receiver
The receiver powers the finder and LNB
How to Use Sat Finder -
Power on your DD Free dish box
Now your Sat finder meter will automatically turn on
The finder will show a signal bar or tone
Adjust sensitivity (gain knob) to about 50%
Adjust DD Free Dish Position -
Slowly move the dish left-right (azimuth) and up-down (elevation)
Watch the meter signal
If it spikes, you're near a satellite
Fine-tune to get the maximum stable signal
If the finder maxes out immediately, reduce the sensitivity
Use the Gain knob to fix it again 50%
Confirm DD Free Dish Signal Lock -
Once the signal is strong, go back to the TV/receiver
Check if channels are showing
If your DD Free Dish channels play, then
You may need to slightly adjust the LNB skew for better quality.
Note: For best results, avoid obstructions like trees or walls, and always make slow and controlled adjustments. Satellite signals are very narrow and easy to miss.
Note: You can use any brand digital Satellite finder; this post is not sponsored by any brand.
