The Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has told television manufacturers that they have to put satellite tuners inside the TVs. This means people can watch DD Free Dish channels on their new TVs without needing a separate box. The government wants to make it cheaper and easier for people to watch TV all over the country.
What does this mean for viewers?
The upgrade will include several key enhancements -
There will be a programming guide that will help viewers find the content they are interested in watching on DD Free Dish. The programming guide will look similar to a menu and will allow viewers to easily find and select their programming from the various channels available.
Channels on DD Free Dish will be categorised into groups, including news, entertainment and sports. This will allow viewers to quickly locate the programming they are interested in.
Viewers using the new system will spend less time locating channels on DDFD compared to the current systems, as programming is easily searched for.
New televisions will be equipped to receive signals when they are available in the market.
More people will be able to watch: DD Free Dish will be available in areas, especially where people did not have the boxes before.
But -
Some people will still need the box: If they have an old TV, they will still need to use the box.
Manufacturers have to follow the rules: They have to make the TVs with the tuners inside, and they have to do it quickly.
People have to know what to look for: When they buy a TV, they have to make sure it says "DD Free Dish Ready" or "In-built Satellite Tuner".
Sometimes people will have to update their channels: They will have to rescan the channels to get the ones.
The government's decision to put DD Free Dish tuners in TVs is a deal for India. It means that millions of people in rural areas can watch over 150 free channels without needing any extra hardware.
As manufacturers make the TVs, DD Free Dish will be as easy to watch as plugging in a TV. People will be able to watch DD Free channels easily and for free.
