How to watch Swayam Prabha 33+ FREE Educational TV Channels?

Do you know? Government of India providing 32 free educational TV channels by using DD Free dish DTH. PM Narendra Modi dedicated these TV channels to students who are studying in rural areas from across India.

These channels are broadcasted by MHRD (Swayam Prabha Group). The high-quality educational programs are provided by NPTEL, IITs, UGC, CEC, IGNOU, NCERT and NIOS from highly qualified teachers and professors.

The SWAYAM PRABHA is a group of 32 Educational DTH channels devoted to telecasting of high-quality educational programs on a 24X7 basis using the GSAT-15 satellite. There will be new content for at least (4) hours every day which would be repeated 5 more times in a day, allowing the students to choose the time of their convenience.

a). Higher Education (For Under-graduate and Post-graduate): 

Curriculum-based course contents at a post-graduate and under-graduate level covering diverse disciplines such as arts, science, commerce, performing arts, social sciences, and humanities, engineering, technology, law, medicine, agriculture, etc. All courses would be certification-ready in their detailed offering through SWAYAM, the platform being developed for offering MOOCs courses.

b). School education (9-12 levels): 

Modules for teacher's training as well as teaching and learning aids for children of India to help them understand the subjects better and also help them in preparing for competitive examinations for admissions to professional degree programs.

c). Curriculum-based courses that can meet the needs of life-long learners of Indian citizens in India and abroad.
d). Assist students (class 11th & 12th) to prepare for competitive exams.

Here are technical details (frequency) for educational TV channels -

1 - To Recieve SWAYAM PRABHA channel No.1 to 16:
Frequency: - 11590 MHz
Polarization: - Vertical
LNB Frequency: - 9750
Symbol Rate: - 29500
FEC: ¾

2 - To Recieve SWAYAM PRABHA channel No. 17 to 32:
Frequency: - 11670 MHz
Polarization: - Vertical
LNB Frequency: - 9750
Symbol Rate: - 29500
FEC: ¾

Here are the suggestive tuning and DD Free dish installation procedure of Set-top box for receiving the educational TV channels -

1. Satellite Name:
a) Go to the Installation menu or setup Programme from remote.
b) Select Satellite Edit menu.
c) Select Add New Satellite menu
d) Select Sat Name Edit menu.
e) Enter Satellite Name as GSAT-15.
f) Enter Satellite Longitude as 93.5° E
g) Press Exit

2. LNB Configuration
a) Go to the LNB Configuration menu. Ensure that the satellite selected is GSAT-15 only.
b) Set LNB Types as Universal (09750-10600).
c) Set LNB Power on.
d) Press Exit

3. Add manually Transponder - (TP) Edit:
a) Go to the Transponder Edit menu. Ensure that the satellite selected is
b) Select Add New TP menu.
c) Enter TP Frequency as 11590
d) Select Symbol rate as 29500
e) Select Polarization as Vertical.
f) ‘22K’ OFF*
g) ‘Disc. Equal’. Off
h) Select Scan as FTA.
i) Press OK.

After filling the above values go to ‘Search’ and Press ‘OK

Now you will receive SWAYAM PRABHA channels from No.1 to 16.
To receive other SWAYAM PRABHA channels from No. 17 to 32, follow the above process again by changing TP Frequency 11670.
Now you will receive 32 FREE TV channels.

Note: - The above-mentioned steps may be in a different order in some of the STBs.
